SEASONAL MAINTENANCE ATTENDANT

We are looking for two Seasonal Maintenance Attendants (SMAs); one will cover Borski Park, and the other will cover Pennypack on the Delaware.

The Seasonal Maintenance Attendant is a 6-month position, at 20 hours a week and increasing to 37.5 hours a week. It includes an hourly pay of $16.35. Accepted candidates must submit a health examination and background check.

SMA Duties: Includes turf and grounds maintenance work: maintaining and improving the park

Your district supervisor may change your schedule if needed. Riverfront North Partnership: This is a Philadelphia Parks and Recreation position managed with Riverfront North Partnership, its nonprofit partner.

Weekend Coverage: Park use is seven days a week. By accepting this SMA position, you have agreed to work on weekend days. (Some SMAs will work weekend days for the duration of the season. Your district supervisor may change your schedule as needed.)

Inclement weather: Park SMA’s still must report to work on a rainy day. In the case of extreme weather, your supervisor will assign you to a different location or allow you to make up hours on another day.

  • Assist Riverfront North with volunteer and workforce development events in the park.
  • Assist with tree care of recently planted trees, including watering and reporting on tree maintenance issues to supervisors.
  • Trim and clear around shrubbery, trees, fences, poles, signage and along the trail.
  • Pick up cuttings, small branches and twigs that fall from trees; report all branches that cannot be moved to your supervisor.
  • Rake and pick up leaves/debris along fencelines.
  • Pick up/gather litter and trash in the park; empty trash cans; deliver trash to a central disposal area. Check hiking trails and nature paths.
  • Shovel and remove silt and debris to clear drainage outlets.
  • Support Riverfront North Stewardship team on invasive removal and park beautification projects with a specific focus on creating a welcoming and safe atmosphere for visitors.
  • Support Riverfront North Stewardship team with mowing when needed. Guidance and training will be provided.
  • Report all graffiti and hazards to your supervisor.
  • Pick up cuttings from beneath pruned trees
  • Inspect port o’potties and report to supervisor if they are in need of maintenance.
  • Document graffiti, vandalism, and safety issues and report to your supervisor.
  • Talk with park users to encourage responsible park usage and to promote PPR and RNP programs and volunteer days.
  • Participate in weekly stewardship meetings to share updates and concerns about the status of the park with Riverfront North staff.

SMA Hours: A standard workday includes a 30-minute lunch. Please discuss the best workdays and times with your direct supervisor.

You are expected to be in the park during your scheduled hours.
