“Take Us to the River” with Frankford Friends

The Frankford neighborhood of Philadelphia is one of the closest to the riverfront but not many people there know how to access it. Our artist in residence Aislinn Pentecost-Farren continues to “Take Us to the River” and most recently partnered with painter and printmaker Brian Bazemore and invited Frankford Friends School to Lardner’s Point Park, located under the Tacony Palmyra bridge, to explore all it has to offer and work on a t-shirt project promoting the riverfront..

Frankford Friends School 6th, 7th and 8th grades visited the park on a sunny November morning a few weeks ago. Exploring the riverbank with Brian, they created found-object sculptures. Aislinn also took them on a walk along the greenway and discussed the urban water system, touched the fuzzy bark of the staghorn sumac tree, and helped spread milkweed seeds.

The students will use their experience on the waterfront as inspiration to create a t-shirt about the river. Brian and Aislinn will visit their classrooms in a few weeks to lead a design and printmaking process with the students – each student will receive their own t-shirt and one to give to someone they know.
